Did I watch the debates? No. Will I watch the coming debates? No. Just about anyone who has followed the election, even in the smallest way, could tell me what the candidates stand for. If they haven’t been following the campaign, I seriously doubt they could make an informed, intelligent decision based on scripted “debates” or garbage that will come from both sides in the final days before Nov. 2.
Why decide who to vote for based on how good they were at debating? Because you’re not good at debating, does that mean you’re not presidential material? Just tell me what your stand is on a position and how you’d go about accomplishing it. After all, how many times does a president debate anyone while in office? As far as I know there hasn’t been a president in a true debate with anyone while in office. Any debating to be done is always done by others and after everything is settled then the president comes in for a photo op and signs the bill, treaty or whatever.
If we don’t start truly paying attention to our politicians and what they say, do and stand for – and stop paying attention to the party spins and network edited snippets – we are in trouble as a Republic. God help us all!
