I am concerned with the number of yard signs stolen this election season. There are many people who are passionately invested in this election and it is frustrating when the yard signs partisans put up to exercise their freedom of speech are taken during the night.
Stealing or defacing a yard sign is prohibited by law (RCW 29A.84.040). If a yard sign is stolen, it is important that citizens report it to their local (non-emergency) police department.
Even though one may be completely opposed to the policies of particular candidates, it is vital to democracy that everyone respects the views and property of their neighbors. I ask that individuals show their support by placing a yard sign for their candidates on their property, instead of tearing down their neighbors’ yard signs.
