I have just completed reading Bruce W. Burns’ July 1 commentary on the primary that has been foisted on the voters of Washington by the courts, our governor and the various political parties. I, like Mr. Burns, have always felt that voting was a sacred right and a duty of the citizens of this country, so much so that I would harass my grandchildren until they registered to vote.
Even as much as I feel that voting is a right and duty, I do not plan on voting in the primary, because it is no one’s damn business which party’s candidates I select for the general election. This will be the first time in 55 years I have not voted.
I realize that our only salvation will be getting Initiative 872 passed, but I would wager that the political parties will expend large amounts of money in an effort to defeat this measure. My hope is that enough of the independent voters will get out and vote on this initiative.
