I’m a “surplused” Boeing worker – one of 36,000. Gov. Gary Locke believes that keeping 800 to 1,200 jobs, (making reference to the 7E7 program) will downstream to 134,000 jobs in this state. Using Locke’s numbers, imagine what 36,000 jobs lost “downstream” could do. Boeing’s ongoing outsourcing of jobs has the great American dream dying with corporate statements of “If we don’t do this, (layoffs) there will be no Boeing,” and “9-11 is responsible.” Perhaps you may remember within a week after 9-11, Boeing came out with an announcement of 30,000 layoffs. Is Phil Condit psychic? The airlines themselves didn’t have projections about their own financial health for at least a month. Now Boeing is committed to outsourcing engineering to third-world countries. How does outsourcing relate to 9-11? It does not.
Corporate America’s disassociation of their “most valuable assets” is becoming this country’s epitaph. After 9-11, the song playing across this nation was one of American pride, patriotism and pulling together for each other. One week out of the ashes and still-smoking rubble, came the most unpatriotic plan ever conceived from Boeing corporate headquarters.
Gov. Locke wants the 7E7 program to stay in this state to keep 800 to 1,200 jobs. Boeing has these numbers going out the door every month with apparently no end in sight.
Where is Gov. Locke at the end of every month for the citizens of Washington state?
