Thank you, Herald, for the article about the former high school sweethearts who established contact with their adult son and, in the process, found each other (“Couple reunites 25 years after breaking up and find the son they gave up,” Sept. 28). I realize that you must out of necessity cover war, murder, scandal, sexual abuse and the whole gamut of crimes we humans are capable of. These days we almost expect to see a new horror every time we open the newspaper or turn on a TV.
That is why this article was such a pleasant surprise. It was presented not as a sweet fairly tale but as a story of two people putting the pieces of their lives back together. It was about hope and rekindled love. I didn’t know, until now, that those subjects were newsworthy. Maybe there’s hope for our society after all.
