I frequently use I-5 between Arlington and Seattle. I travel at the posted speed limit and mostly feel I am impeding traffic. I am curious as to whether there are any drivers in the western part of our state who are capable of reading and understanding what they read or if they just don’t give a tinker’s damn about the laws.
Case in point: Recently, out of curiosity, I set my cruise control at 65 mph — 5 mph over the limit — from Island Crossing to the Eastmont Interchange, and counted vehicles. I did not overtake or pass one single vehicle and yet was overtaken and passed by 178 vehicles. Were I a state patrolman, I could have in that stretch issued 178 speeding tickets at $100 per ticket, increasing the state coffers by $17,800.
