I should state I believe the Marysville Fire Department has the most dedicated and highly trained staff around, but I still would vote no on Proposition 1. The residents of Marysville did not ask for all these new big box stores or to be annexed into Marysville. Most of us fought it all the way, but the Marysville City Council wants all that tax money that we annexed residents and big box stores will bring them.
It is estimated that new stores in Smoky Point area alone will bring in 20 percent more money in the city’s operating budget. So with all due respect, I would ask the Marysville Fire Department to go before the City Council and ask for their fair share before they ask the residents and business owners to shell out even more money that we do not have. If the lid is lifted now, where is it going to stop? It’s not the Fire Department’s fault, it is the City Council’s fault that they are falling short of the money that they need to operate. I would urge everyone to lean on the council to pay for it and to stop being so greedy and start thinking about the residents, not their own bank accounts. Enough is enough.
