As a longtime volunteer, I am writing in support of the Museum of Snohomish County History. Although the water damage to the collection is not catastrophic, it was a very close call and should set us all to thinking what would have happened if Snohomish County’s historical legacy was lost to us forever.
There are many people, like myself, whose grandparents and great-grandparents pioneered this county and their histories reside in the museum collection. Isn’t it about time that Snohomish County had a permanent and safe home for our irreplaceable collection of artifacts, photographs and archives?
We are the only large county in the state that does not have a museum to preserve its historical legacy. That legacy needs to be treasured, protected and not taken for granted.
Heritage preservation has not been a priority in Snohomish County. Now is the time to make it a priority for the sake of future generations. Now is the time for Snohomish County to step up and make it possible.
