Being a foster parent is a big job. In addition to normal parental responsibilities, your family is closely monitored by various state agencies. Plus, given the reasons children are in foster care, you often must attend numerous doctor, therapy, school and social worker meetings. Foster parents are also required to attend regular training. At times I find it extremely difficult, and during those times I remember what a Lummi judge said to me. “Thank you, thank you for taking care of our children”
So, during foster parent appreciation month (May), please show appreciation to the foster families in your community for taking care of our children. Saying “thank you” can be very powerful.
