Santa has checked everything off his to-do list, but as 2008 approaches, everybody else is just getting started on writing up their expectations for the new year.

In the travel industry, places such as Italy, Portugal and Latin America are expected to be among the top destinations in 2008. Unfortunately, getting to most of those places requires a trip to the airport, which is expected to be among the top places to avoid.

Her suggestions include creating a budget, using automatic deductions to build up your emergency fund, and reminding yourself that your craving for a double chocolate hazelnut soy latte with whipped cream is not an emergency.
Columnist Michael “Gino” Gianunzio has a more lighthearted list of goals. His New Year’s resolutions for wine lovers include holding a wine and chocolate party and attending at least one tasting event. Of course, if you really are fixing your finances as Singletary suggests, Three-Buck Chuck might be the only wine that fits into your budget.
