Hats off to the writer of the March 26 letter, “Many believe we need more safety.”) A few of her statements: “Your freedom stops where mine begins. I feel I have a right to feel safe in America. I’m righteous enough to think my safety and peace of mind are important. These weapons need to be banned … when your ‘rights’ become a danger to society then you lose those rights.”
Following this logic, I demand we add cell phones, marijuana and alcohol to the ban. Picture I-5 with those texting fiends, derelict drunks driving the wrong way, or potheads weaving in a drug fog. It’s my right to drive on safe roads! Regarding gun legislation, Obama and Eric Holder distributed 2,500 AK-47s to the Mexican drug cartels in 2010. Passage of an assault weapons gun ban will force these guys to relinquish those AK-47s at America’s border to insure our safety.
Regarding peace of mind, how about law enforcement bodyguards. Hey, that “greedy NRA” (words chosen by the letter writer), earmarks membership dues for law enforcement training. Why not get our money’s worth out of that “greedy bunch”! After guns are banned, for self-defense, let’s use baseball bats or maybe Ninja stars until the bodyguard program kicks in. Don’t tip off the crooks that a baseball bat is the assault weapon of choice in America (fact). If we’re lucky, the perpetrators will die laughing before we have the chance to take a swing. Way to go!
