When voting your City Council candidate in office, you would expect that person to take action and decide on certain issues.
Why pay $500 a month for someone to not move the city forward? Items of years and years spending money on studies, staff time for no action? This is not what we as taxpayers expect.
Example:
The Mukilteo mayor and City Council asked staff to look into paving 5th Street, curbs, sidewalks, storm drains and beautify the street to the first bridge toward Everett. This project would also tight-line the water coming down the hill above 5th Street that has caused complaints and damage to the property owners below 5th Street. I have been there in my boots and shovel to help in this flooding. I was on the City Council at the time.
This project, the council was told by our city staff, would not cost the taxpayers of Mukilteo a dime, as the money is in the street fund for this project and we had received a $290,000 grant given for this. The engineering and design was done by our hard-working staff with the firms and presented to council to ask questions and “tweak” the plans as shown. Now comes the vote to put it out to bid by our city administrator. But the council voted “no” on the whole project, except me. If you are not going through with the wedding, why send out the invitations?
Let’s remove the incumbent council. None of us had experience before being elected. You only had to be a citizen, registered voter, and care! How much more money and staff time can you waste?
