I am writing to express my thanks to the three Snohomish County councilmen who voted for Mark Roe to replace Janice Ellis as county prosecutor. I am also writing to let Mr. Mike Cooper know how upset I was while reading his comments in The Herald the morning after the vote.
I admire the hard work precinct committee officers do, but I don’t really think they are the most qualified to decide an appointment of this magnitude. In criticizing the appointment, Mr. Cooper said we were missing an opportunity to change the course and culture of the office. Why are these changes needed? In saying Mr. Kenny possessed certain experience, leadership and temperament for the job, Mr. Cooper hinted that Mr. Roe lacks these qualities. This is totally not true.
Anyone who knows Mark Roe personally or professionally knows how well respected he is by his peers. He is the most passionate, caring individual I have ever met in public service. The council made the absolute best choice, and I thank them for that.
