In just a few weeks all registered voters will be asked to vote on Monroe public schools’ new bond and renewal levy. I myself will be voting yes and I’ll tell you why.
My children spend upwards of six-and-a-half hours a day, five days a week attending public school. While they are there, I want them to have the best education possible, be surrounded by teachers and staff who care and respect them and will help teach them how to be responsible and caring adults.
I, too, get tired of paying taxes. In fact, I get tired of having to pay for a lot of things! But, I would rather pay for public schools now than have to pay 100 times more into the social welfare and prison reform system later. A quality education does make a difference. We need to remember that we are a community, and whether you have children in private, public or home school or no school at all, we still share the same community. The children of today are the ones who will be taking care of you tomorrow!
The best chance your child and all children have of obtaining a happy and financially secure future is a supportive family, caring community and good quality education! So, please vote yes twice for public schools.
