I was born and raised in the little community of Emander. Most of it is called 128th Street now.
The freeway with on- and off-ramps completely changed the landscape, along with accompanying fast-food drive-ins and other businesses.
There is only one area that has stayed almost the same – blacktop instead of gravel. The little twisty road from the Park and Ride to the Bothell-Everett Highway. They call it Dumas Road now.
I picked blackberries along its banks as a child and learned to drive it as a teenager. It has always been a green, leafy passage, soothing to the senses.
Recently, I read in the paper that someone is going to build another apartment complex there.
We have apartment complexes all along the Bothell-Everett Highway from Maltby Road at Thrasher’s Corner to the Silver Lake Village, and all the side roads in-between. They all seem to have vacancy signs out, some even offering one or two months’ free rent.
Why is the county planning department allowing this to happen? Or is the City of Mill Creek planning department?
Can’t something be done to stop this apartment complex mania? Aren’t people sick of it? I am.
