Regarding the Wednesday letter, “Nonsense laws foster disrespect,” I would like to thank the writer for pointing out the problem with the public.
The public wants the government to be in charge of everything they do – this is partly because of the lack of self responsibility that runs through society now. Due to laws and people like this, the government is now beginning to resemble that of George Orwell’s “1984” or Ayn Rand’s “Anthem.”
The government now possesses more power then the founding fathers ever intended and sadly enough, the government sees itself as – for lack of a better term – the parents of the public. The common man no longer has a say in the affairs of the national government, almost no say in the state government, and a little say in that of the local.
I would like to encourage everyone to start getting involved in politics again. I would also like to encourage most of the adults out there, with their infinite wisdom, to retake a high school history class. Relearn what the Constitution actually says about the laws that you follow blindly and whether these laws are actually legal themselves.
Thank you for listening.
