Proponents of the motocross track(s) in Maltby hope MXGP can work with neighbors to alleviate their concerns. There is nothing to work out – we do not want the track, period.
Six days a week, over a hundred semis haul in and out of Rinker Pit. We contend with the noise and, on clear days, the operations at the pit. Daily, the Maltby area is used as the “shortcut” of choice for many commuters. People avoiding Highway 522 to come and go to Monroe has Yew Way steadily filled with cars. Broadway is used by those by-passing Highway 9 and Maltby Road as the shortcut to Bothell-Everett Highway. The turn light at Highway 522 and Paradise Lake Road has been altered a few times to adjust to the ever-increasing traffic waiting to turn and use these routes. A racetrack that would encourage more vehicles on roads already burdened is unfair to residents.
MXGP came under fire in Monroe because neighbors could no longer abide the noise and traffic. Plopping it down in a more densely populated area makes little sense. I live on Yew Way, approximately 8 miles from Monroe. On the Fourth of July and on days when the racetrack celebrates with fireworks, they are heard continuously at our home. Living 1/4 mile from the pit, it is preposterous to believe motocross noise won’t travel our way.
At the opposition meeting, it was mentioned to our surprise that we are “one step behind” the proponents in the process dealing with the county. The most severely impacted constituents of this area found out about the motocross track(s) just recently. MXGP had behind-the-scenes assistance. I feel extremely betrayed.
The track does not belong in Maltby. If one is operating in Eastern Washington, it’s because it is not impacting the quality of people’s daily lives.
