Regarding the Oct. 15 article, “The flap over traps”: Please tell Heidi Meinert that she has nothing to worry about when it comes to moles. Initiative 713 will not prevent her from trapping moles and other rodents who may disrupt her fancy landscaping. Trappers are pandering their mistruths to people like Ms. Meinert in a feeble attempt to scare them into voting the wrong way.
Pet owners like Heidi Johnston – whose pet dog Dimples was wounded by a leghold trap in a public park – understand firsthand why I-713 is such an important measure. Until I-713 is passed into law, body-gripping traps will continue to pose grave risks to pets and wildlife in Washington.
Take it from Dimples. No animal deserves to suffer in the unforgiving jaws of a trap. Vote yes on I-713.
