Tree cutting, pole project not helpful

Saturday’s article about the “mega-storm” brewing quoted me as saying “I’m so angry right now.” Well, I wish they had let it be known what I was angry about instead of making me sound so silly and trivial.

I am not angry at the power being out, nor about the snow, which I love, nor about the hard-working rank-and-file PUD employees. I was angry at the higher-ups at the PUD whose decision it was to “butcher” the trees from Lake Goodwin to Stanwood this summer, plus the ugly power poles/lines that were installed with the explanation that it would keep the power from being interrupted during storms. That project cost millions of dollars and we still lost power with the first storm to hit.

I am also very angry that PUD decided we did not need to get any information when we called to find out an educated guess as to how long it would be before power was restored, which left us with little knowledge to plan. Shame on them. The poor PUD employees who were left to answer the phones without any useful information to give out got the brunt of the angry calls from the general public. There was no reason to leave them, or us, in the dark.

I would also like to thank all the PUD linemen who worked so hard to get the power back on in the bitter cold. I know how cold you were.
