If you could use a vacation (and who can’t?), Christina Harper reports that a little bed and breakfast on Camano Island makes a mighty fine weekend retreat (http://www.heraldnet.com/stories/07/04/29/100tra_tl1camano001.cfm).
Of course, all that peace and quiet, breakfast in bed and soaking in the hot tub can get pretty boring, so here are a few alternative destinations to consider:
Tornado Alley. Clients of Texas-based Tempest Tours will spend their trip chasing storms and watching twisters touch down (http://www.heraldnet.com/stories/07/04/29/100tra_tl5tornado001.cfm). Under a “Wizard of Oz” clause, visitors must sign a waiver releasing the company from liability if they wake up and aren’t in Kansas anymore.
The Ice Hotel. The hotel, located in Jukkasjarvi, Sweden, is built entirely from snow and ice (http://www.icehotel.com). The temperature inside hovers at an invigorating 17 degrees, and visitors sleep on piles of reindeer hides atop ice-block beds. If you’re not too busy shivering to be romantic, the deluxe suite has locking doors — that is, until someone takes out a hair dryer.
The Lizzie Borden Bed and Breakfast. Those with a morbid streak can sleep in the house where the ax murders of two people were committed and eat a breakfast similar to the last one the victims ate (http://www.lizzie-borden.com/About.asp?SiteSectionID=1&SiteSubSectionID=1). Rooms are a minimum of $150, and no refunds will be given if you flee screaming at midnight.
