Trump supporters bear responsibility for climate decision

So here’s the thing about climate change: If the huge scientific consensus that, yes, it is happening, turns out to be wrong, the worst case scenario is that we do things to improve our environment. If, on the other hand, those who say it isn’t real are wrong, and we do nothing to prevent it, then the worst case scenario is calamitous weather events, and places that are currently inhabitable will not remain so, which could include the entire planet.

Which gamble do you want to take? Most the people I see denying climate change are old white men who are placing dollars and/or ideology ahead of their children and grandchildren. They are gambling the lives of current and future generations for returns on their own immediate interests. And, now that these deniers are in power, they will actually be able to take steps (such as Trump removing us from the Paris climate accord) that raise the stakes on the gamble they are making for future generations.

Anyone who has kids should be outraged by this, but that is clearly not the case, as many people proved with their vote. If you support Trump and the GOP, you are complicit, you are also gambling with your children’s future. If you cared, you unequivocally would not be willing to roll the dice on climate change, because the fact is, if you’re wrong, your children will be the ones picking up the tab for a selfish bet.

Lastly, the idea that a man like Trump is the guy that you want spearheading these decisions for you, is seriously one of the most comically thoughtless approaches one could take to this deadly serious topic. Following his (lack of) leadership on this topic (or any, for that matter) is a fool’s errand, and your kids are the ones who will suffer the consequences. That’s sick, that’s sad, and that will be your cross to bear by taking this self-centered stand.

All so a few rich white men can have even more money.

Disgusting.
