Please, please tell me that no tax dollars were spent on what I hope turns out to be a joke (Thursday article, “Women’s backs built to handle pregnancy”). That one moment might have been wasted in a study of such profound inanity is not only astounding, it is breathtaking. I have known my entire life that a woman’s body is different than a man’s. It is not news, yet it seems every news service in the country has chosen to run this item as if it were some kind of record-breaking historical announcement. It’s not even a story. It’s like a first grader discovering she/he can color outside of the lines.
Any moderately intelligent layperson could have told you that if you add weight slowly and consistently, it is amazing what one can carry. Even men could do it — witness the beerbelly! But the “effortlessness” of it? Well, as a person who has carried two sets of twins, let me tell you, it is not effortless. It is back-breaking, leg-crushing work, yet worth every second of discomfort.
Again, please tell me no tax dollars were spent on such stupidity. Not when they could have spent the time and money on something that would actually benefit humanity.
