Recently on “60 Minutes” Andy Rooney observed that he doesn’t like receiving Christmas presents because if he really wants something he buys it for himself. People give him gifts that he neither wants nor needs. I feel the same way. So this year whenever family or friends ask what I want for Christmas I reply, “Send a donation to one of my favorite charities (Oxfam, public radio, public television, animal welfare) or to one of your favorite charities.” I don’t get stuff I don’t want and the people who really need help during the holidays get it. Isn’t helping the needy the true spirit of Christmas?
