We are not in the Middle East to spread democracy.
In 1953, President Eisenhower sent the CIA to Iran with the purpose of creating a coup against Mohammed Mossadegh. In August 1953 Mossadegh, the only democratically elected head of state in the Arab world, was overthrown. The Shah of Iran, a puppet of the United States, was then placed in power and the monarchy restored. The Shah was intensely hated by most Iranians.
No, we are not in the Middle East to spread democracy, we are in the Middle East to satisfy America’s greed; have you ever heard the word … oil?
But oil isn’t the only reason we are over there. We now have stealth fighters, stealth bombers, spy drones, attack drones, etc. Our presence there is for the same reason we were in Vietnam, to support our military/industrial complex, and to test all of our new fancy weapons. As Truman said when the Japanese ambassador was in Washington trying to negotiate a surrender, hurry up and drop those bombs, they must be tested in a live theater.
