After watching most of two debates I’m not sure I know any more now than I did before the debates. Most of the debating traveled the same turf that has been well trampled for the last year. Long on finger-pointing, half truths, convenient omissions, exaggerations and short on actually giving us clear answers and offering solutions to the all-important issues.
One thing is abundantly clear, it’s much easier to criticize and second guess the incumbent. It’s the old hindsight thing. There is no way for the voter to know what the challenger will do in the same job faced with the same set of circumstances. You may think you know but when the reality of actually governing and making the decisions that affect everybody, your perspective may and will change on many issues. In other words, sometimes it’s much easier said than done.
I believe that any concerned voter who has paid attention knows this much, partisan politics, the old “my way or the highway” of doing business is not going to get the job done. Those that continually insist that they and their beliefs are right and the other side is wrong are not changing anybody’s mind. Democracy simply does not work that way and the longer it takes for us to accept it the worse our problems get. Haven’t we had enough of this yet?
