In response to Ricky Byers’ Aug. 29 letter, “Animal Abuse Charges: Sheriff should take more interest”:
The writer, a self-described “Grizzled Vietnam combat veteran,” said he finds animal abuse “both an appalling and cowardly act.” He then said members of the sheriff’s office are cowardly for what he perceives as inaction on their part. I could not agree more that animal abuse is a cowardly and appalling act. However, to imply that any member of the sheriff’s office, or anyone else for that matter, is a coward without knowing that person’s character brings into question the writer’s own integrity – something I would not expect from a military veteran.
