In his Sunday column, “Nikki Haley may be the cure to what ails the GOP,” Dana Milbank points to the governor of South Carolina as a viable vice presidential candidate on next year’s Republican ticket. Among other accomplishments, Milbank lauds Gov. Haley for her leadership in the effort to remove the Confederate flag from the state capitol grounds. In a deeply red state, her stance on the flag issue, was one that took great political courage and one that earned the governor respect from many, including this writer, who informed her so, by way of e-mail.
While Nikki Haley has, no doubt, shown a positive side in her public career, let’s not forget that this is the same governor who promised boldly, to keep the unions out of Boeing in her state. While corporate profits are soaring and working families are trying to get by on stagnant and even falling (in real terms) wages, this is not the time to be considering an avowed union buster for a job that’s just a heartbeat away from the Oval Office.
