What is this, some kind of developer’s saturation campaign? First an out-of-town newspaper runs a column condemning the effort to save the Collins Building, then a letter writer from Marysville in our own Herald calls Historic Everett a special interest group three times in one letter like they are warning us of some pernicious Middle-Eastern cartel.
All due respect to both of you — mind your own business.
Historic Everett is trying only to save something that is uniquely Everett to salvage our chances of avoiding being churned into the oblivion of nowheresville by the steamroller of an endless stream of generic developers’ real estate pollution.
Our downtown is slowly dying because it is nobody’s destination. The Collins Building could be an iconic heart of Everett, telling all of Western Washington that we are a place to come with an artistic soul blending the best of history and modern living into an enriching visiting experience. Certainly, it can serve us better than a speculator’s mud-heap on a riverbank waiting for the next heavy rain to wash away.
