Recently I was in a well known national chain grocery store and was absolutely appalled at something I witnessed and more appalled that when I called the store manager was told there is nothing they can do. Has the American Disabilites Act stooped this low? I don’t think so.
While in the store two ladies were there with their dogs. Both dogs stood taller than the grocery cart. One dog was smelling the meat and later the other dog was brought down the cheese and lunch meat aisle. How appalling to think that the produce, meat and dairy we bring home may have been smelled and pawed over by dogs.
The one lady who was struggling to control the unruly dog told me they were service dogs and they could do whatever they wanted to. The dogs were loud, barking and totally out of control, clearly not service dogs! Service animals are required to go through strict training and the ADA also requires them to be indentified.
And to think store management had no intention of doing something about it. Who will be responsible if someone gets bit, attacked or knocked down by one of these animals? Horses are used as service animals; will we now see them in grocery stores?
I will tell you one thing, I will not be buying my groceries in that store ever again. I am a animal lover, but there is a limit.
