Kathleen Parker in her column “Analyzing the pope’s words about women” refers to the pope as Pope Francis the first time he is mentioned. Afterwards he is referred to as Francis. Pope Francis should always be referred as “Pope Francis” as a sign of respect. After all, he is the head of the Roman Catholic Church.
President Obama is most often referred to as Obama. As president of the United States of America, he also deserves the respect of being referred to always as President Obama.
Queen Elizabeth is never referred to as Elizabeth, and rightly so, as she is Queen of England.
It is time we showed honor and respect and called and treated these three important people and others in similar situations by their earned, worked for or inherited titles.
