Well, it seems that the Marysville Education Association isn’t going to stop until it has a school board made up of puppets it has endorsed and selected so that the teachers can get what they want. The teachers don’t care about the students, nor the financial situation of the district. These teachers are some of the highest-paid in the state, and Marysville has one of the state’s lowest senior class graduation percentages.
As for the recall, any time a person stands up against the majority they will become the persecuted. That is what is happening now with the two senior board members. The new board along with the old board members and the parents need to take the effort that is being spent on the recall and all the other games being played and put it toward fixing the problems with our kids’ educational opportunities here in Marysville.
I have always said the school board is responsible to the public who voted them into office, not the teachers union. The teachers work for Superintendent Linda Whitehead and the school board; the school board doesn’t work for the teachers union. These teachers should be glad they still have a job, as their strike was illegal. The teachers have brought this on to some extent; they could have gone back into the classroom in September and taught while they were negotiating a contract.
I just hope that the school board doesn’t do what the Mukilteo School District did, offering a great severance package to send the superintendent down the road.
