My compliments to Peter Scougale of Marysville, who nailed The Herald’s political correctness when he said that “the editorial board of The Herald should know as well as anyone that the vast majority of terrorist attacks in the last 10 years have been committed by jihadists, and to pretend otherwise is utterly disingenuous.” (March 17 letter, “Can’t see enemy with blinders on.“)
We could learn something from Israel, according to David Pryce-Jones, a seasoned observer of Middle Eastern affairs. Writing in the March 21 National Review, Pryce-Jones says that “More than any Western country, Israel has specialists with language skills and first-hand experience of the Arab and Muslim world, and they are almost unanimously wary.”
What puzzles me is why public opinion in the U.S., from the Obama administration on down, fails to recognize one of Islam’s most significant influences on its believers, which requires them, in what they call “honor,” to deceive and thus target for defeat the Western nations that fatuously credit them with peaceful intentions.
Pryce-Jones declares that “the current administration responds whimsically to the news, as if it has no considered moral or political aim, but wishes that these tiresome people would simply go away, or maybe hopes that Iran will overplay its hand unprompted. American assets diminish as friends and allies are dropped or treated in a way that destroys trust.”
“Disingenuous” is much too polite. How long are we going to be utterly stupid?
