Regarding the response on Dec. 2 written by Susan Gregerson, “In God we trust: Many Christians were self-serving”: The question asked, “What are true Christian values?”, speaks volumes to the worth of Christ, not the worth of men. Heaven help us if our views of God are so narrow that our past “white” folks determine the norm for society.
If Christianity were brutal and inhumane, then why would the recent obituaries of Elissa and Marissa Vandeventer indicate lives dedicated to the cause of Christ and his service? Do we really think they forced their ways on others? It was willing service based on the one who shows us what real servanthood is like.
Let’s rethink this “white” folk religion and place its value on the one who models truth.
