Vandals bring end to annual display

For years now we have decorated our house with Christmas lights and displays for the enjoyment of our local community. Along with the fun of adding to our display each year has come the disappointment of waking up in the morning to parts of our display either destroyed or missing.

What is sad to me about all of this is that each year, because of the senseless act of a few inconsiderate individuals, we have to expect that we will become their victim. We try to anticipate their moves by coming up with new ways to vandal-proof our things. This year we thought that we had outsmarted them, only to catch those cowards in the middle of destroying our decorations twice.

Well, enough is enough. Today I will take down the decorations two weeks before Christmas is actually here. I am no longer willing to go through the expense and disappointment brought on by people who do not grasp the concept that what they are doing to others is not harmless fun.

What goes around comes around. My hope for those mindless cowards is that it brings with it a bit of wisdom.
