In rebuttal to the Monday letter, “It’s just wrong to charge vets a fee,” regarding the Mill Creek Veterans Memorial, does the writer honestly expect the city of Mill Creek to foot the bill for the engraver?
Yes, speaking as a veteran myself, we have given, but I don’t feel the city of Mill Creek and the citizens of this country owe me anything. In fact, I feel I owe them to be living in this great country and allowing me to prosper and achieve a little wealth and live in “elite Mill Creek.” It has only been in the last year and half that prosperity and wealth have become bad words.
As to the private school issue that the writer refers to but won’t mention, it is not in Mill Creek, but in unincorporated Snohomish County. While there may be a few wealthy families who send their children there, the majority of students come from average, hard-working Americans, and it is with great sacrifice that they send their children to that school. Not only have they paid their taxes for other children to attend public school through their property tax (which keeps everyone’s tax bill lower) but they elect unselfishly to send their children to a quality school. These children and families don’t come for their sports programs, but rather for academics and a lifetime of success, and a 100 percent graduation rate (97 percent of the graduating class continues on to college).
These families do not differ from the rest of Snohomish County, but are from every community in the county and a productive and vibrant part of the community. Before he starts venting, the writer should get his facts right.
I am on my way to the Mill Creek City Hall to pay my $83 as a proud American and resident of this county.
