I want to thank you for your Sept. 19 editorial about the annual United Way Day of Caring. The amount that the efforts of volunteers benefit our local non-profit is immense and makes a huge impact on our communities at home.
I would like to recognize one group of volunteers that came out into our community Friday, The IAM machinist who mobilized a group of more than 70 volunteers and worked at least seven different projects in Snohomish County. Not to mention a group that is planning to assist the Katrina effort down south. This a remarkable due to the negative publicity they have endured, yet they still care about the community they live in and those less fortunate than themselves.
An interesting fact about Boeing workers. On average they contribute approximately $19 million a year in Puget Sound, through the Employees Community Fund and never a word is said about their generosity.
