When I tell people that we have an election for Mukilteo School District levies coming up on Feb. 8, they always ask “didn’t we already vote on that in 2020?” Nope. 2020’s vote was for a bond that is now paying for much-needed classroom space, among other things.
“But isn’t the state fully funding education?” is the next question I’m asked. No, they are not. While as parents we don’t need to spend $100 plus for school supplies anymore, funding falls far short of what is needed to run our schools.
There will be two Mukilteo School District levy measures on the ballot. They are replacements for the ones we approved in 2018 and are currently paying for and the upcoming vote is to continue funding once they expire.
One measure is the Educational Programs Levy. This covers things like athletics and extra-curricular programs as well as substitute teachers and services for special-needs students.
The other is a Capital Projects Levy that pays for technology such as computers for students and staff and in-classroom instructional panels. It also supports things like maintaining security cameras and building systems such as HVAC and plumbing.
All of these things are essential to running our schools. Please vote YES with me on both of these Mukilteo School District levy measures.
