Let’s keep “excellence in education” alive in Northshore! On Feb. 7 the Northshore School District will have three school funding measures on the ballot: A maintenance and operations levy, which provides about 20 percent of the funding for basic operations not entirely funded by federal or state resources; a technology levy, which provides for technology in the classroom, updated systems and improved online access; and general obligation bonds that provide 90 percent of the funding for capital improvements and modernization of older facilities.
As determined by task forces of community members as well as staff, these tax measures fund our schools most urgent needs. These three measures renew similar funding passed in 2002 and would provide funding for the next four years.
Northshore voters may take this opportunity to show support for a school district that has earned our trust as a solid school system. To pass, these measures need a strong voter turnout as well as a 60 percent yes vote. I encourage all Northshore voters to join me in voting yes on Feb. 7.
