This fall the voters of Marysville will have within their power the ability to choose just what kind of future they want for the city of Marysville. Because of the work the grass roots citizens group Reform Now has done, it will be up to you, the voters, to call the shots this fall, not politicians, not paid consultants and not outside money.
Reform Now’s volunteers, who worked hard to make this vote, a reality wish to thank the 820 citizens who signed our petition. We particularly wish to thank all the senior citizens who helped as well as shop owners who allowed the petitions in their store.
Many citizens were extremely grateful for this effort and want reform now. We hope that those that felt strongly for the need for reform will support this effort with more than a signature and help in the upcoming campaign. Nothing in life is free – not even good government. It’s something we’ll all need to roll up our sleeves for.
Sixty-three percent of cities the size of Marysville or larger have manager-council forms of government. Since 1984, the percentage of cities that have manager-council has risen from 34 percent to 48 percent while the form we currently have – mayor-council – has declined. Marysville’s form of government hasn’t changed since the city was formed in the late 19th century. Reform Now believes that in the 21st century, a manager-council form of government represents the best hope for modern, effective and professional administration of our growing city. Reform Now will be organizing city town meetings to educate the citizens of Marysville about manager-council government. Our goal is to educate the public so that the citizens can make an informed decision in the fall.
