Our County Executive, Bob Drewel, and the supporting cast of the Snohomish County Council continue to ignore the will of the voters and the spirit of what was delivered by the passage of Initiative 695.
As evidenced recently in Mr. Drewel’s proposals for increased budget spending, increased property taxes, increased sales tax, doubling the residential surface water fee to every single homeowner and renter in the county and increased miscellaneous development fees: It seems the concept of reductions in spending have again eluded our elected officials.
Did Drewel get more efficient with the transit system? What has he done and how many dollars has he saved the taxpayers by implementing more efficient methods of doing business? Has he exercised management skills and given managers incentives to decrease spending or perhaps decrease budgets by 3 or 4 percent?
Sorry, it doesn’t look like it. In fact, he has continued to improve at moving the shills around and now he is going to push the sheriff’s department out on point and dress them with the black hat. His clever, veiled threat to the voters of less than adequate police services due to Initiative 695 still lingers in the air. His solutions and leadership are about throwing more (taxpayer) money at the problems.
So, look for taxpayers to continue bringing and supporting initiatives such as I-695, I-722 and I-745 that will help with management skills and determining priorities.
