Voters won’t forget come Nov. 2005

Recently 60 to 70 percent of the voters in Marysville showed their dissatisfaction with the Marysville School Board and the superintendent. As a result of this overwhelming support for new leadership for Marysville’s kids, the current school board retaliated at its Nov. 17 meeting by giving the superintendent a one-year extension on her contract. How pathetic.

The board justified its actions based on an evaluation in March. Since that time, the actions of the superintendent in regard to a school make-up day resulted in awarding teachers pay for coming back one day after school ended in June. It appears our superintendent cost us a lot of money by having to pay teachers for a day in June, as well as payment for those who worked on Feb. 14. Is this good administration?

Then we had the strike. It appears the board members marched in “lock step” with our superintendent. They even relinquished their duties by failing to have regular board meetings and turning strike-related activities over to the superintendent. How pathetic.

Does anyone wonder why school district printing is done in Snohomish rather than Marysville? And why are we hiring high-priced legal firms in Seattle when respected and adequate legal services are available in Snohomish County?

It’s too much to ask Helen Mount and Ron Young to do the right and proper thing and resign. But I think 60 to 70 percent of the voters will remember their Nov. 17, 2003 vote in Nov. 2005.
