Last week I visited my friend at the Everett hospital who was recovering from a ruptured appendix. She was taken by ambulance to the emergency room in pain. She was placed in the waiting room for seven hours. Her appendix ruptured. She could easily have died. Cannot the professionals detect an emergency from an earache? Were the many people in the emergency department because there was no other place to go? Yes, our health care system still needs improvement, and yes, we continue to come up with plans to make it better. Our Affordable Health Care plan is a start, but I prefer a single payer system like Canada or Great Britain. People needing emergency care should not have to wait seven hours.
