I’ve lived in the Marysville School District since 1990, and during that time I’ve watched new neighborhoods popping up by the bushel full. The farmlands along Sunnyside Avenue and Getchell Road have given way to modern new homes, and even a fool would have to admit that Marysville is bursting at the seams.
The question is, why haven’t we built any new schools? Why haven’t we kept up with the pace? With new neighborhoods constantly in evidence, I suppose there was always the hope that the district would be able to keep up with the developers. But that hasn’t happened.
Now we need two elementary schools, a new high school, and we can’t pass a bond to save our souls. Apparently most voters understand the urgency, but there are still 42 percent of us who don’t. Wake up, Marysville! As we grow larger, we need to grow in our vision. No longer are we a backward, sleepy little town. We need better schools.
