When we were fighting Brightwater in Edmonds, I sent out many requests to citizens to attend meetings, write letters, contact representatives and other activities. Ron Wambolt responded immediately and positively to every request I made. That fact alone made me inclined to support him when he decided to run for Edmonds City Council.
I (and I suspect most people in Edmonds) am frustrated and disgusted at the amount of time the current council has been dithering around with building heights in the downtown core.
When Ron Wambolt’s opponent had the effrontery to resist placing the issue on a ballot because, he said, the council members were hired to make the tough decisions, it cemented my support for Wambolt. Yes, they were and they have refused to do so!
Ron Wambolt has been identified with the downtown height issue, but I know he has a firm grasp of other issues of importance to residents outside the bowl. He has come out firmly in opposition to expansion of Paine Field (his opponent has not), he has personally walked the neighborhoods (even mine, far removed from the bowl), and he has been willing to listen to all the citizens. And, unlike the incumbent, he is available to attend all council meetings.
I have faith that Ron Wambolt will support Edmonds first. He will not sacrifice the needs and interests of my city on the altar of regionalism. He is my choice for Edmonds City Council and I will be voting for him in November.
