The Bush administration claims we are winning the war on terror (after saying it was un-winnable). I would like to know what data it is using to make this claim. When this war started, there were 50 terrorists that were wanted. If we are winning, then there must be less than 50 terrorists now. The truth is that there are a whole lot more terrorists added as every day passes.
Bush’s war on terror is doing everything wrong when it comes to winning the peace. First of all, bombing innocent victims creates a lot of recruits for the terrorist organizations from the surviving family members. Secondly, bombs don’t stop people from hating. To truly win the peace, you need to understand why people are mad at you in the first place. The Bush administration hasn’t ever asked this question, and does not care about the answer.
With a failing economy, lost jobs and gutting of environmental laws, the only thing Bush can run on is the war on terror. The more terrorists there are out there, the better chance he has of being re-elected.
So how has he done with this war on terror? Starting with seven minutes of deer-in-headlights freezing, he showed he was not quick on his feet. He chose to attack the only two countries in the region that did not have WMD even though they had nothing to do with 9/11. Contracts for the war were given to friends without bid. Osama (related to the bin Laden family he grew up with) is still at large. He resisted the 9/11 investigation and refused to testify under oath or even by himself in private. If the war on terror is his strongest point, he doesn’t stand a chance of being elected by the thinking voter.
