I thank The Herald for telling the story and aftermath of the appalling vigilante event recently in the city of Snohomish. These vigilantes lining First Street, acting as if they represent a legitimate protection force “for the people” of Snohomish.
How did these vigilantes come to believe they had a mandate to bring their weapons, Confederate flags and menacing presence to “save” Snohomish. Let’s be real, this was a staged political event for what appears to be members of the mayor’s and sheriff’s constituency, who at their invitation and approval were welcomed to demonstrate, aka intimidate, under the guise of protecting Snohomish? From who? I would feel much safer knowing that “I” was protected “from folks like this” when I go visiting Snohomish businesses.
Call it like it is, a staged political event, with the mayor and sheriff complicit. Where these vigilantes were “free” to intimidate, threaten and permanently damage the reputation of Snohomish. Why permanently? Well for me, I’m not sure when those images will fade, for now they are clear and present in my mind.
