A recent PBS program featured the internationally renowned Sooke Harbor House Restaurant in British Columbia. Known for fine cuisine, the restaurant insists that a major reason for its flavorful dining experience is the freshness of the ingredients. Sooke Harbor House makes a point of cooking with local ingredients, purchasing when at all possible items grown or collected within a 20-mile radius of the establishment itself. This is one form of cooking and eating we can all indulge in by buying at the farmer’s markets around the area, or at other markets which sell local products. This is a win-win practice for local producers and our own good health.
