Peoples’ memories are too short, especially when it comes to experiences which are distasteful. Let me remind everyone of the atrocities committed by Saddam and his army when they invaded Kuwait. Every day the airwaves and newspapers were filled with images of Iraq’s finest, killing Kuwait civilians before looting their homes and businesses, and then just before they left the country, they set fire to all of Kuwaits oil fields in keeping with their “scorched earth” policy.
The smoke from the fires blacked out the entire sky similar to what the blast of Mount St. Helens did. Now Baghdad Jim McDermott and his like want us to accept Saddam and his promises as upstanding and righteous as if it came from Ward Cleaver himself!
Every other newsreel showing Saddam has him on his balcony firing his rifle into the air. Those bullets have to come down somewhere (no, they’re not blanks!) but obviously he doesn’t concern himself with that.
If you have a mad dog, you don’t pet it and expect it not to bite you.
