A writer asks, “What’s wrong with you people?” in his Friday letter “We must prevent future terrorism,” referring to those who stand against the torture policies written by the degenerates of the Bush/Cheney administration. I’m sorry that it is disturbing to him that some of us stand for the Rule of Law, our Constitution, the Geneva Conventions, respect those who fought for and died while protecting those laws and to do what is morally and ethically right not just when it is easy, but especially when it is difficult and painful to do so. That is what has made our country great. We don’t stoop to the level of the scum of the earth no matter how enticing it may be or how one can twist our moral fiber into thinking we’re justified in acting just like those whom we despise. (The U.S. government has executed those who have waterboarded our soldiers.)
Sir, there is absolutely nothing wrong with us. We simply choose not to act like scumbag terrorists, nor support their practices. It’s certainly his right to condone, rationalize, minimize and defend the acts of terrorism and respect the thugs that employ them. However, then the question must be asked: “What’s wrong with you, sir?”
