I hope the Super Bowl halftime show is cause for more Americans to stand up and ask, what have we become as a culture? I do not believe that we were informed by either the NFL or CBS that we were in for an R-rated or even higher rating of adult entertainment for the halftime show. I thought the Super Bowl was a family type gathering, a time to root for our favorite teams and have a good time. I did not know that this was an event that children and young people were no longer a part of.
I have never been so disgusted with TV. I do not accept the argument that you should just turn it off. We have a right as families to enjoy these events as much as the next guy. This was on during prime time TV and I believe that nudity and disgusting lyrics that have to have labels and ratings on them should not have been allowed to air as if it was nothing.
Our children deserve not to be exposed to such vulgar filth as Nelly’s, “It’s getting hot in here.” I believe that most parents of young children who listen to the lyrics would have to agree that this was not appropriate for children. Janet Jackson’s and Justin Timberlake’s display of overt sexual mating was also inappropriate for general audiences, let alone the nudity she displayed at the end.
I hope parents start taking a stand for our children. The only good, appropriate choice in the halftime show was the band and Josh Groban. This is not about musical taste, either, as we like a variety of music – from classical to clean rap. The people in charge of this underestimated the power of the people! We have a right to clean airways.
